Behaviour Programmes
Behaviour programmes are for dogs who may be struggling to cope. Perhaps they are displaying behaviours we may find annoying, or difficult to deal with, which are brought about by the dog trying to cope with their environment, changes in circumstance, or their communication is being misunderstood. We offer highly in depth, 5, or 6 week bespoke, behavioural programmes to cater for you and your dog’s needs equally.
Understanding behaviour can be really hard and whilst there is lots of information out there, it is often misleading, or incorrect. All dogs are individuals, with their own emotions and feelings. If they don’t follow the ‘training’ outcome suggested on Google, what do you do next? This is where having a qualified behaviourist to assess your dog, as a special and unique somebody, is so helpful. A programme plan will be created for your dog, which is modified and changed, week by week, depending on the outcome seen. You will acquire the skills to know how to continue improving your dog’s confidence once the course has ended.
An example of the detail included in an 6 week programme is as follows:
An initial online behavioural assessment, which follows ‘Fact finding week’, where you will be required to film your dogs weekly routine, complete a history form and veterinary referral letter. A detailed behavioural plan will then be created specifically for your dog.
5 x one hour, face-to-face sessions over consecutive weeks, in the guardians home.
Step-by step video guidance in between each session, outlining all the basic skills needed for helping your dog such as focus games, scent work, loose lead walking, emergency skills, and relaxation techniques.
A 50-60 page course Handbook containing all the concepts, skills and training exercises for you to keep.
The facility to communicate with me and send films of the training you are doing so I can critique and help you with tips and advice for you to achieve the most out of the course.
The programme is completely individual, and tailored to your dog’s precise needs.
Also included, is a month of ‘Real life application’ after the 6 weeks has ended where I continue to support you while you apply all you have learnt.
Most insurance companies will cover behavioural therapy but you will need to check with them directly.
This depth of feedback and communication is key to success, oh, and enjoying the journey!
